I want to start saving for a bigger trip, which means I need to make smart financial choices this summer when it comes to our local mommy and me adventures on the Jersey Shore. After thinking about a few affordable ideas, I figured I'd share them with you all so you can take advantage of these fun and budget friendly excursions. So if you are looking for some fun things to do with toddlers on the Jersey Shore, here's a few for your own list.
1) Ice Cream and BOATS. Two great things that shout SUMMER. Go get some ice cream and bring it to a cool boat watching location. I like the Trader's Cove park by the Mantoloking Bridge in Brick or the Manasquan Inlet (either on the Point Pleasant or the Manasquan side). Both of those locations are great for watching boats. By the bridge you can see a lot of boats on the bay (especially on a nice weekend day) and early evening at the inlet, it's fun to watch the fishing boats pass by. Enjoy some ice cream and practice counting as boats zip along.
2) Pack a Park Picnic. Venture to a park you have never been to in a neighboring town or to your most favorite one with a picnic! Pack some sandwiches and snacks, a nice big blanket and maybe even a ball to throw or kick around. Inviting friends or family to go with you can make this outing even more fun! Don't want to brown bag it? Order door dash for park delivery or stop and get some Jersey Mikes or other favorite foods!
3) Come to Brick's concerts at SUMMERFEST. Brick holds lots of free concerts over the summer at Windward Beach. Arrive EARLY if you plan to drive. The parking lots fill up REALLY fast. Bands come play live music and the evening ends with fireworks. Bring lawn chairs so you can sit and relax! You also have the little beach and the park nearby to play and there are plenty of food vendors. It's a great all ages event. You can find more info and the dates HERE.
4) Early Evening SHELL Hunt. After the lifeguards are done for the day, the beaches are FREE! That time varies per town but it is usually around dinner time. That makes it a great time to pop on up to the beach for some FREE and crowd-free shell-hunting! Look for some great seashells and collect them in a bucket. You can even bring some watercolors to paint them right there on the beach! Make sure you have a bag to collect them and a container for the painted ones to keep them separate so they can dry. Just make sure not to go swimming without the lifeguards there!
5) Play at the Sprayground at Dorbrook Recreation Center. Come play in this awesome spray park on a hot day! No registration needed for weekdays but you need to register in advance for weekends and holidays. Timeslots are an hour and a half and you can't bring food or drink in the park with you except for plastic water bottles. Make sure to bring a swim diaper! For more info, click here.
Hope you enjoyed reading this list. Let me know if you give any of these ideas a try! Let's have some fun this summer without spending a boatload!
