A Toddler Adventure that DIDN'T work out for us

Colleen Kahl

I'm usually sharing adventures on here that were really great for my toddler and I, but recently we had a day that simply didn't work out for us. Just because this adventure didn't work for us, doesn't mean it won't work for YOU! But since knowledge is power, I wanted to share with you our experiences.

We took a drive to Peekaboo Playground (we love it there) without calling ahead (my bad!) and when we got there, we realized it was closed for a private event. I felt terrible that my son could see all the kids playing and having fun and we had to turn around and leave. He handled it PERFECTLY so we walked next door to the dollar store so he could pick out some little toys to play with in the car for the ride back.

We got back in the car and headed north when I remembered that SLIME UNIVERSITY opened in Brick Plaza. Maybe we would have fun making our own slime? We headed there right from Peekaboo. The space is bright and colorful and was teeming with elementary-age kids when we arrived. I asked the girl at the desk if this activity would be appropriate for a two year old. She hesitated and then said "Yes but it's really sticky." She handed me some sample slime which I showed my buddy.

HE WOULD NOT EVEN TOUCH IT!

My little guy is happy to be messy EVERYWHERE ELSE but his hands. So we decided that slime wasn't for us and walked down the sidewalk of the plaza.

A few doors down, we saw kids entering and exiting Chuck E Cheese. My toddler was curious so we decided to pop in. It was a super busy Sunday in there with families EVERYWHERE. We bought a game card and looked around for games that we could play together. With the exception of about 3 or 4 things that he could do with my help, most of the games weren't suitable at all. Not worth a trip for his age. The place is much better for older kids and I actually prefer the boardwalk arcades instead. We played a few of the games and then decided to walk to the new CRUMBLE location in the plaza and get a cookie.

We walked the few doors down to CRUMBLE. I've heard a lot about these expensive cookies and was looking forward to trying them myself. Well-- following the theme of the day with things not working out-- CRUMBLE WAS CLOSED! Three strikes for our Sunday Funday and we were out!

I still had a sweet craving so we popped over to Atlanta Bread to get some of their cookies and then just called it a day. Mommy was trying to wing a Sunday-Funday without planning ahead and it just didn't work out this time. I did realize how incredibly lucky I am that we went from botched adventure to botched adventure with ease because my little guy is an absolute go-with-the-flow champ when it comes to being out and about with Mommy. In the end, our little team always wins!
