Does Your Toddler LOVE Cars?

Colleen Kahl

My little guy ADORES playing with cars. Our living room is a constant parade of matchbox cars and trusty Mater & McQueen are basically family members at this point. My son is a chip off the ole block. His father is in the automotive industry so this passion was very welcomed by his dear ole dad!

One day my husband found a car show listing up in Red Bank. We decided it might be fun to take the drive and walk around since 2 out of the 3 of us are nuts for classic and impressive vehicles. Car shows vary in size but you can find them all over the state. Summer and fall are popular times for shows and some quick google searches will share lots of opportunities to check them out. Red Bank is a very walkable town to begin with so we figured the recipe was right for a nice little adventure.

My toddler loved walking through the cars and seeing both old and new vehicles. He listened as Daddy explained to him the makes and models. He shouted out the colors as we passed them by. This was a simple little trip but he seemed very engaged. The show wasn't that big so it didn't take long to see all the vehicles. I suspect that unless there are other activities, car show trips with a toddler are likely an hour or less. There was an ice cream truck also on site for a cold and yummy treat after walking by the assortment of VERY NEW and VERY OLD vehicles.

This was a short little adventure, but I expect to do this again. It's not something that I would normally have on my list of toddler adventures but it worked out really nicely for my car-loving little boy! Have a little one that collects toy cars? Add this outing to your list!
