My LegoLand Mistake and Why We Still LOVED our Trip

I’m just a mom that wants to build fun memories with my little adventure buddy.  I am always looking up new ideas and exploring great new places to take my little boy.  Most of our trips go without a hitch— but I was a little bummed about the mistake I made in this one.

Legoland had been on my list for a while.  It’s only about a two hour drive from me, and I was sure that from our other adventures, my toddler could make the trip easily.  I did some research and found that in November they are launching their Holiday event and snapped tickets up for the Friday he was off from school for teacher’s convention.  I had big visions of a Christmas Card with me, my little dude and Lego Santa from their holiday meet and greet.  I was anticipating their holiday shows.  I couldn’t wait to see the park all decorated.

Well… Mom Fail.

We went November 8th and the Holiday party didn’t formally start until November 16th. WOMP WOMP.

While some holiday decor was up (and pictured here), the fun seasonal extras that made me want to purchase a ticket for that time, were not.  Boy was I disappointed.  No glide skating, holiday shows or seeing Lego Santa at the character meet and greets.  What a bummer.

But I will tell you what was NOT a bummer.  The park itself.

Lucky for us— we had never been to the park before.  Everything was new– and the park by itself, is still oodles of fun.  We loved the cleverly designed carousel right at the entrance, the lego sculptures everywhere you turn, the little duplo train, the lego city, the little lego cars– it was a blast!  The attention to detail was fantastic and you would find fun little elements everywhere.  The park is clean and easy to navigate but here’s a few things to note when you go with toddlers.

  1. They have family bathrooms.  Family bathrooms for the WIN!  Trips to the potty in little stalls with toddlers are ROUGH.  I was happy to see they thought about this in the park design.

  2. You are on a HILL!  It was a chilly windy day when we were there and I was glad we had layers.  The hill also made for a lot of walking from one area to the next.  You either take the long and windy paths or lots of stairs.  Choose your own adventure.  While we went in the fall, I bet this place gets HOT in the summer since you are in a lot of direct sunlight.  Bring that sunscreen for those summer months and a stroller if your little ones don’t like to walk.  Just make sure you park the strollers outside the lines for rides.

  3. The dark rides might be too much for your toddler.  We rode one of the rides and my little guy put on a brave face, but hated it.  Maybe try to check out some ride videos before you do the Lego Factory Adventure Ride or the Ninjago ride. (here’s one)  After the Factory Adventure my little one refused to even try the Ninjago one which I suspected would have been more enjoyable for him.

  4. Don’t skip the 4D movie!  It’s a nice break from walking around and it was really fun!

  5. Food was pricey but there are a variety of places in the park so you may want to check out the menus and know which will be best for your family ahead of time.  The menus vary from place to place.

  6. They do merch like Disney.  You will be exiting some rides in gift shops.  If you are a sucker like me, make sure you budget for those park goodies.

I will be checking out this park again in the summer because they have a lot of water attractions that were obviously closed at this time but looked like a lot of fun.  And maybe next year I’ll get the date right and get to give Lego Santa a hug!  So major fail– no.  We still had a fun day together and let’s be real– that is all that REALLY matters!
