A Spring Afternoon at Sesame Place

Updated: Feb 3, 2023

My little travel buddy just turned one, and we have been READY to go on more adventures. Like a lot of families with kids his age, we spent pregnancy and most of his life locked down in quarantine. After a SECOND bout with Covid with only minor symptoms, we decided it is OUR TIME to get out and have adventures--- ENTER THIS BLOG and this little day trip-- to Sesame Place!

Yes-- Sesame Place is a big SUMMER destination, but looking for an age relevant adventure, I explored what a Spring visit could give to a little baby and found some great options! I remember Sesame Place when I was little-- and had a blast on the water rides! Naturally, the water rides wouldn't be open for spring-- or even be one-year-old friendly-- so I wanted to do some digging on activities before we bought tickets. We found some fun possibilities and figured-- why not-- let's see if this kid likes costumed characters!

The first thing I found was Dine with Elmo!-- a special lunch experience where you get to meet and greet with some classic characters! Walking in, you get major cafeteria vibes which immediately made me anxious about the food options. We were very relieved when we saw all the brunchy food options and it ended up being quite delicious for both us and our son. It wasn't sold out, but we did need to purchase tickets in advance. I'm sure it sells out early in the busy seasons-- and luckily there are several time options. The mini show and meet and greets were WONDERFUL! Elmo, Abby and Cookie Monster all came to the table to pictures and hugs. At our visit, there was also the EASTER BUNNY! 100% would do again! You get lots of face time with characters, great pictures and a nice lunch!

After lunch we went on the only ride suitable for a one year old-- the Carousel. In fact, we rode it twice! It was only a quick wait and I knew from my research, the other rides are for kids that are a bit bigger. I thought the recorded comments from Big Bird are funny once the ride starts!

After the carousel, we popped into the gift shop to pick up a plush cookie monster and a little bus of figurines which our baby REALLY loves and still plays with. We paid a lot for those goodies-- but whatever. We haven't been anywhere in years! The shop had lots of fun toys and options and was in the center of the park. I didn't love how the kids t-shirts felt-- but the figurines were a BIG WIN for us.

At this point, we headed over to one of the stage shows. ADORABLE! Our baby clapped along with the music and LOOVED it. He has always been a music fan so I was pretty confident he would enjoy it. After the show, we went and got our spot for the afternoon parade-- which for us was a MUST SEE! The choreography and the floats were really fantastic. I appreciated the attention to detail, the high energy performers, and the cameos of some classic characters like Big Bird, The Count, Oscar and more. It was the perfect wrap-up to our spring afternoon and we headed home to Central Jersey right after it wrapped up.

All in all- we had a lovely April visit to Sesame-- but the whole time I was there, I was glad we weren't hot and sweaty in the summer weather. Spring was a perfect time for our visit-- and we are already considering going again-- Word out is they have fun Halloween events and trick-or-treating on the STREET! How fun!

So feel free to jump in on this one! Tell Elmo we say hi!
