Strawberry Picking!

My twin sister loves outdoor activities. She's always organizing us to pick sunflowers or tulips at nearby farms-- so when she sent out a group text about Strawberry picking, I wasn't surprised. I never heard of anyone doing that before-- but I was open to doing something new with my little buddy.

Before heading to the farm (we went to Battleview Orchards in Freehold which also has a cute little store I suggest you stop at before you head home), I was a little worried that the fields would be HUGE and it would be a lot of walking for me while hauling a one year old. Luckily at this place, that wasn't at all the case! We parked literally right next to the field, paid our admission fee, and in just a few short steps, we were among the strawberries!

Funny--Once we started picking I realized I had never before SEEN a strawberry field. The farm had a TON of ripe and juicy strawberries (I guess our timing was good!) to pick and it was easy to fill a box with more than we could ever eat. At the time, my son was a huge strawberry fan so at least I knew we would all be snacking on them!

My little bub love picking strawberries-- we just had to make sure he didn't pick too many green ones. After all, you have to buy what you pick! Eventually he got the hang of taking a strawberry and putting it in our box. Most of the time we would hand him what we found for him to put in his box. He definitely squished a few in the process so I was glad we had wipes on us to keep his hands from looking like they came from a murder scene. At one point, he was content to just hold a strawberry in each hand in take in the surroundings. This kid is always just happy to be outside!

A few thoughts before you plan your strawberry trip---SUNSCREEN! You are in an open field, and if you are fair like us-- you'll need it. Also-- don't wear nice sneakers and especially don't wear white ones. If you step on any strawberries you will ruin your shoes! Also-- plan to bring strawberries to loved ones. You'll always pick more than you can eat.

This was a sweet (literally) excursion-- I'll definitely join when my sister texts about it next year.
